The showcase at the Jameel Gallery within the V&A holds an array of North African Fashion, bridging generations with a curated blend of contemporary masterpieces and timeless classics. Our mission is to intertwine the rich heritage of the past with the vibrant pulse of modernity, celebrating tradition while infusing a new take on how a curation of this kind can be presented. Our choice of typeface draws inspiration from the elegant strokes of Arabic calligraphy within the Jameel Gallery itself, echoing the cultural roots embedded in the designs. From the onset of the process we worked with references from Arabic and Quranic layouts, we quickly noted the depiction of notes and vibrant accents. We implemented a similar system echoing hues found in the fashion pieces and Arabic motifs. Our carefully curated color palette was paired with textured paper evoking the tactile allure of textiles. We wanted the final interpretation text and display prints to present itself as delicately printed textiles. In harmonizing energy, clarity, and accessibility, we have crafted an identity that honors heritage, ignites curiosity, and invites all to explore the intricate tapestry of North African fashion.
