RIBA: Raise the Roof

Royal Institute of British Architects

Raise the Roof was an exhibition at the Royal Institute of British Architects, reflecting on the institution’s colonial history and the evidence of it still present within its building.

Our design drew on the tradition of patchwork, a practice found across cultures, often born out of scarcity, and symbolic of weaving together different perspectives. Typographically, we created a hybrid font by fusing typefaces from under-represented designers such as Mizan, Min Sans, Squil, and Halyard  into a new specimen, a new canon.

The result is a visual tapestry that celebrates diversity while challenging and expanding established narratives. The exhibition honoured visionary architect Lesley Lokko, recipient of the RIBA Gold Medal.
